Are you ready for the magic headed your way with this theatre season? Parkland Theatre is kicking off the season with “12 Angry Jurors,” directed by BJ Gailey.
The production, “12 Angry Jurors,” which was originally titled “12 Angry Men,” was rearranged to be diverse and to show deeper complexities of the relationships between the characters that are not shown in other versions of the production.
Show dates and times include Oct. 3-5 and 11-12 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 6 and 13 at 3 p.m. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $15 for students, veterans, seniors and youth. Adult tickets will be half off opening night.
When asked what made this a story that needed to be told in current times, Gailey explained how we all come across people who are so stuck in their insights and opinions that they cannot see anything beyond that. This story is a way to confront the tension that comes with disagreements, which we sometimes just cannot get past. It will allow us to see the person behind the opinion instead of just the opinion itself.
This 75-minute production includes all the details necessary to ensure the audience feels as though they are in the room with the jurors. After viewing, the objective is for the audience to walk away with the hope that common ground is possible to find and that everyone does not have to agree to stand together.
While casting this production, the team looked for individuals who could make you feel what they were saying was the truth. Often, you find auditions to be over the top and dramatic, but Gailey found it essential that the characters be believable in what they give to the audience.
This production lives or dies on account of how well the cast can perform without a break throughout the entire production. Will they pull it off? Go see for yourself!
