Student Trustee Candidates
Jaromir JJ Bagang
My name is JJ Bagang, and I am a student currently enrolled at Parkland College. I first enrolled back in Fall of 2019 for a semester of Personal Fitness Training but have since then switched over to majoring in OTA (Occupational Therapy Assistant). I have taken a semester of prerequisite classes for the OTA route last Fall and am currently taking classes right now with a total of 10 present credit hours enrolled. I would like to run for student trustee, and the main issues I will be tackling that are very important to me involves the school spirit and overall enjoyment, success, quality of life and satisfaction of students at Parkland College.
It will be my top priority to ensure the students here at Parkland are well represented and given a voice and fair consideration. I will work with student government and help come up with events, activities, clubs and organization ideas and how to enhance the Parkland College student experience to make resources regarding career opportunities, financial aid, counselling and study support more easily accessible and available. I will also tackle any issues and problems headfirst that the students acknowledge and do my best to prevent those difficulties from cropping up again, or at the very least figuring out ways to ease and provide support and help for them.
I will also do my best to maintain a proactive role and heavy involvement and engagement in all activities and events of Parkland College such as sporting events, race talks, public projects and programs. I really enjoy outings and socializing with others, and I believe it is very important that all students have fun and enjoy their time at Parkland College. I hope for your kind consideration in supporting me and helping me become the next student trustee.
Kha Nguyen
Attending Parkland College since last fall, I have taken on leadership positions in several student organizations. Most notable is the Cobra Investment Society (CIS) in which I am the founder and president. It is a preprofessional student organization with a focus on business and investing. Since its establishment, CIS has grown to over 20 active members and hosts weekly meetings. Late last semester, our student org had an idea to form a Student Managed Investment Fund. CIS would be given a pool of money and the members would decide how the money is invested in the stock market. Since then, several members and I have been working with the Parkland Foundation and other college administrators to bring this idea into fruition. As of today, we have raised over $4,000 and the fund will launch next fall. Now, I would like to talk about what I can do for Parkland College. I want to serve as Student Trustee because I believe that I can be the voice for the Parkland student body. During my time here, I have noticed that students are not as involved on campus as they can be. This stems from the long and bureaucratic process of starting a student organization, a myriad of inactive clubs on campus, and the idea of extracurriculars as an afterthought. If elected, firstly, I will propose changes to the Student Life policies making the process of establishing new clubs more seamless and less intimidating. Secondly, I’d like to update the school website with active clubs and their meeting times. Finally, I propose an idea that all professors offer extra credit to students in their classes for participating in extracurricular activities.

Growth and Positivity
Parkland College has helped me grow not only as a student but as an individual; however, I plan to improve my place of study by contributing my leadership and compassion to the Student Government Association. Working in a position like Co-President of the Cobra Investment Society has given me the ability to organize and motivate students to reach a goal. I have been doing everything in my power to bring positive changes to my school and I know that as Student Government President I will be able to accomplish much more than I ever could as a private student.
I have prepared myself for a leadership role by being involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities such as Club Latino, Parkland Honors Leadership Team, and the Cobra Investment Society. I also firmly believe that aiding the community in any way possible is essential to improving a learning environment, and I have been doing what I can by participating in Homework Club, where I visit Garden Hills elementary every week to help young students grow their academic abilities. I have also enjoyed volunteering to translate for the Hispanic community at local elementary schools and events because I believe that cultural diversity and acceptance promote a positive and open learning environment.
Improving Parkland College is possible through promoting community involvement and cultural celebration, but to accomplish this there will need to be more active student involvement. If I am elected Student Government President, I will ensure the growth of Parkland College by seeing that more students benefit from the numerous activities offered at Parkland from Art & Design Club to the Cobra Investment Society. I see a bright future for our school, and I hope to be able to lead the way by promoting growth and positivity.
Zachary Hijab
Hello everyone, my name is Zachary Hijab,
I am running for student president because I want to help make a difference at Parkland. A lot of the students here do not try clubs or are even too nervous to go to them and I would like to change this. The goals I would like to accomplish as president are to enhance communication between students and our administration, promote respect and positive values among students, represent the views of students on matters of concern, help plan fundraisers, and support the development of the campus culture. As someone who has led a club at Parkland, I have developed the right qualities for this position. Such as leadership skills, teamwork, the ability to communicate with others, and more.
With that being said, I plan to do my part as your student president. to help make Parkland a better place for students and staff.
Treasurer
Mohammad Yaseen
Hello everybody, my name is Mohammad Yaseen, and as a student at Parkland College, I am well qualified for the position of treasurer. By making changes to the campus, I plan on making our institution more engaging for students of all backgrounds so that they will be more involved in college activities. My goal is to make college life an enjoyable learning experience for every Parkland student.
Having said that, when I came across the treasurer position, I knew it would be a great opportunity to make changes for the better of Parkland. The role of the treasurer has a lot of influence over the activities of the clubs. Our clubs here at Parkland need funds in order to help their clubs grow and participate in fun activities and projects. As the treasurer, I will play a strong part in helping the clubs get the money they need in order to improve their clubs and the campus.
As a member of the student government, my communication skills are a great asset to the student government and will help to promote teamwork and cooperation between the board of the student government and the students who are putting their trust in our board. As a problem solver, I believe I can help our student government and our campus by getting to the heart of any issue.
Looking at the issues on our campus, I will focus on club activities. I believe our clubs are not getting enough attention and I would like to change that when I get elected as treasurer.
All things considered, I think that I can accomplish a lot during my time as the treasurer on the Parkland campus. Having a great time at Parkland should be everybody’s goal, and I believe that can be done.
