Spring is finally here! With spring comes longer days, sunshine and warmer weather, at least for the most part. After many long, dark months, we are ready to go outside and enjoy the nature. This week, I have searched around the area to find what I believe are fun ways to enjoy this spring season. Feel free to send in your suggestion for fun things to do or to let the Prospectus staff know if you enjoyed the spots that have been picked out.
Aroma Café
Enjoy your favorite type of coffee or delicious homemade pastries at Aroma Café in downtown Champaign. This charming little coffeeshop has a cute outside area that makes the perfect spot for catching up with a friend or finishing your homework. The prices are affordable, and the coffee is high quality. You can always be sure that you will be greeted by a friendly face when stepping into this local gem. Don’t forget to check out the art that decorates the walls. It’s all made by local artists and can be purchased.
The Quad
If you find yourself on campus, the quad makes the perfect spot for soaking up some rays while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Whether you would like to study in the shade underneath a tree, play frisbee with your friends, or read a good book in your hammock, there is room for everything. The chance of meeting a cute puppy is also high, which makes an even better reason for going!
Cobra Athletics Game
There shouldn’t be any excuses to not go support our Parkland Cobras now that the weather is so beautiful. Bring your best friends and cheer on our fellow cobras either at a baseball or softball game. Maybe your support will contribute to bringing home a win! Go check out the Parkland College Athletics website to find out when the next home game will be.
Sidney Dairy Barn
If the heat gets to be too much to handle, make sure to stop by the Sidney Dairy Barn in Sidney, Illinois. The drive might be long but trust me, it will be worth it. The Sidney Dairy Barn serves delicious old fashion ice cream in many flavors so you can be sure to find something that will satisfy your taste buds. Picnic tables are placed outside the ice cream shop so you can sit down and enjoy your frozen treat. Make sure to check out their website to find out what the flavor of the week is.
The Japanese House
If you wish to explore nature and enjoy the newly sprouted trees, the Japanese House is the perfect place to do so. With its location in Urbana on the University of Illinois Campus, it isn’t a far drive if you live in the area. The design of the garden makes for a peaceful and relaxing afternoon in the sun. Further explore the Japanese culture by taking part in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony that is offered at the Japanese House. Check out their website to find out about the upcoming ceremonies.
