CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Athletics and the Cobra Baseball program are proud to announce that Chase Becker has been honored with national recognition from the National Junior College Athletic Association. The freshman utility player was awarded NJCAA DII Baseball Player of the Week based on his performances from March 27-April 2nd. The Bettendorf, Iowa native led the team in hits (14), home runs (8), and RBI (22) this past week, helping the Cobras to a 5-5 record and a top-20 rank from the NJCAA.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be recognized,” Becker said following the announcement, “Without God and the strength he gives me, it wouldn’t be possible.”
The freshman exceeded Parkland head coach Anthony Silkwood’s high expectations last week. Silkwood revealed, “Chase’s week was extremely impressive to watch. Something I haven’t seen in a hitter, ever.”
Becker has gotten off to a strong start to his freshman season, leading the Cobras in RBI (39) and home runs (10) through 31 games, recording a .403/.500/1.000 slash line in 76 plate appearances. The Next Level Academy alum has totaled a team-best 1.500 OPS through 62 at-bats. Chase set career-highs with two home runs and six RBI on Sunday against conference rival John Wood Community College. Becker, a general studies major at Parkland College, is the son of Todd and Julie Becker.
“I am looking forward to continuing to help this team reach our ultimate goal of winning a conference championship and reaching the Division II World Series,” Becker concluded.
