A deep passion for music and live sound has always been a huge influence in Adam Porter’s life. Porter is a Professor of Communication and Radio, and the faculty advisor of Perimeter Road Records here at Parkland College. Perimeter Road Records is a student ran record label now going into its third year at Parkland.
Porter studied music at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, in Carbondale Illinois.
This is where he had a great mentor by the name of Todd Herremann. Herremann gave Porter many opportunities to assist him in gaining deeper levels of education and credentials that helped him attain his current position here at Parkland.
“I have always had the passion to produce music at a high level,” Porter told the Prospectus.
Porter has been dabbling in creating his own music since the late 1990’s to early 2000’s. With a deep personal taste for instrumental hip-hop and a preference for not using computers for writing or recording, Porter’s home studio rarely has a computer fired up. Instead he turns to his stack of records, turn-table and a scattering of keyboards, synths and drum machines. Porter likes to record his own music to analog tape as he says it gives it a perfect final touch.
“In a world where digital software has become the norm, I found that detaching myself from that sort of technology and taking a more old school approach is the way to go for me,” Porter said.
Porter has several of his own original music releases, which he only recently started releasing publicly. He is currently working on his tenth release which will be his longest and most official release to date. It will be titled, “Modern Archaic II” and it will be available on 12″ vinyl and cassette along with digital releases. Porter goes by the name Wingclipper and you can find his music on most modern streaming services like iTunes and Bandcamp.
Porter also co-hosts an analog only radio show every Monday at 9 a.m. called “The Analog Hour,” on Parkland’s own radio station WCPD 88.7 FM. Porter hosts this show with his good friend, Brian Dunn. The two broadcast strictly analog music consisting only of cassette tapes and records. The show usually runs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. CST.
Porter recently just wrapped up his second ever live performance as Wingclipper on Sept. 25 at a venue called The Front Porch in Philo, Illinois.
