To celebrate Black History Month, Parkland’s Student Government and the International Student Association hosted an International Fashion Show on the stage in the Student Union on Wednesday, Feb 27. The fashion show exhibited international clothing before and after Americanization. For the hour-long period, students of various backgrounds modeled different clothing from all over the world. The fashion show showcased the cultural diversity here at Parkland. “It’s [the fashion show] a great chance for students from around the world to share and celebrate their home countries here at Parkland,” said Amber Landis, the Advisor for the International Student Association. Landis said that the fashion show has been done for over 20 years, typically as an event associated with Parkland’s “Culture Fair.” She also said that the countries that were represented in the fashion show were Mali, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tunisia, Indonesia, Zambia and Mexico. Along with the fashion designs from all over the world, the show included upbeat music for models and audience members, alike. Audience members clapped and cheered as students modeled colorfully patterned fashion on the stage. Overall, the international fashion show seemed to provide a fun experience for the audience members, and highlighted the rich cultural diversity that Parkland has to offer.
