Midterm Endorsement Mop-up

As promised, I have a few remaining endorsements to issue for our state and Parkland’s surrounding area. As painful as it is for me to say, this is truly a “vote blue no matter who” election. Despite the very clear corporate ties and opposition to progressive values that some candidates hold, the corporate ties are stronger and the distaste for secular values is more pronounced on the Republican ticket. To help Illinois, and the country, defend against attacks facing the rights of women to choose, workers to organize, and voters to free and fair elections progressives of all shades must elect and reelect Democratic leaders. To vote Republican or aid their cause by not voting or voting for a third party, is to enable the rising wave of “Christian Nationalism” in our country with all of the distaste for democracy and hate for women, those in the LGBTQ+ community, racial, ethnic, and religious minorities that banner disguises.

All over Champaign County, there is voting already underway. Luckily there is also grace period registration here which means any unregistered voter can register and vote at one of Champaign County’s vote centers between now and November 8^th.

Exercise your rights and do your part to defend against those who will take them from you.

Trent is a second-year political science major at Parkland College and Intern for the Champaign County Clerk’s Office. He plans to transfer to UIUC after this year. This is his second year with the Prospectus. In his first year, he won three state awards from the Illinois Community College Journalism Association in the categories of Headlines, Editorial Writer of the Year, and Editorial Board.
