The spring theater season kicks off this Thursday, and tickets for these shows are a
must-have. In addition to the array of shows this spring, the Parkland Theatre Department has
unveiled its Fall 2024-Spring 2025 calendar.
The Spring 2024 lineup hosts three Teen-rated shows on the Parkland campus at the Harold
and Gene Miner Theatre venues, with a special production in the William M. Staerkel
Planetarium.
“Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” is the first to appear in 2024, debuting this week on
Feb. 15-26. This show is rated Teen for adult language and content.
Taking place during the same era as William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” this play focuses on the
debauchery (excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures) that ensues when side characters
become main characters in a gruesome story, effectively lacing comedy into tragedy. The twists
and turns of this show will likely please audiences and have them howling in both laughter and
agony.
Following this, the venue swaps over to the William M. Sterkel Planetarium as the true tale of
“Silent Sky” kicks off from March 7-10. This actors’ studio production is the first full production
play ever to be held in the Planetarium.
The production hailed as a story of empowerment and astronomical discovery, follows lead
woman Henrietta Levitt as she faces the challenges of women’s social and scientific roles within
society. Follow her story as she paves a vital path into the 20th century that has shaped the
astronomy we know now and far into the future.
To wrap up the Spring 2024 showings, “Little Shop of Horrors” will slither onto the scene on April
11 and leave on the 27. With a total of nine showtimes in the Miner Theatre, audiences will have
ample opportunity to experience and re-experience this theatrical classic in its full gut-busting
glory.
Both new and returning audiences are in for a real treat in this race between love and
photosynthesis. Will main character Seymour Krelborn feed into the smooth-talking plant’s
antics and let it take over the world or leave with both himself and the original Audrey free from
the carnivore’s maw?
Information on shows coming in the 2024-2025 season has been published on the Parkland
website, including “12 Angry Jurors,” “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas,” “The Miser,” and “The
Wedding Singer.” Further information on auditions for the season will be announced at a later
date.
The cast lists for all of the spring showings are posted under the respective shows’ listings,
along with showtime details. For more information on accessibility, tickets, and in-depth
synopsis, go to Theatre (parkland.edu).
