Second MWAC win of season
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 2 Parkland College volleyball team won its second Mid-West Athletic Conference match of the season, a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-14) win over John Wood CC (8-3, 0-2 MWAC). It was the Cobras’ (17-1, 2-0 MWAC) first home match of the season.
Sophie Young (39 assists, 7 digs, 5 blocks) set up the offense and was strong at the net as well. Additional support denying the Blazers came from Kat Blase, Halley Everett, and Jayden Sorter (4 blocks), as the trio combined for an additional 20 blocks. The back line was led by Josie Hess, who tallied 23 of the team’s 70 digs, along with Everett, Young, and Kayla Brandon (7 digs).
On the offensive attack, Blase (13 kills, 10 blocks) hit a blistering .750 on 16 attempts, and Everett (10 kills, 9 digs, 6 blocks) hit .529 on 17 attempts. Arika Richardson added nine kills for a team total of 45.
Up next, Parkland travels to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the challenging Kirkwood Invitational that includes six top-10 teams. The Cobras will face No. 1 Iowa Central CC and No. 10 McHenry County CC on Friday, September 10, and then No. 5 Johnson County CC and No. 3 Sauk Valley CC the following day.
