CHAMPAIGN Ill., The Parkland College Women’s Volleyball didn’t drop a set in their opening two matches of the Parkland College Classic, defeating Vincennes University and Muskegon Community College by a score of 3-0. The Cobras have now won seven matches in a row going into two ranked matchups tomorrow.
In the first game, Parkland (25-3) made quick work of Vincennes (8-2), winning the first two sets by scores of 25-8 and 25-12. The Trailblazers gave the Cobras a little harder time in the third, but they still fell to the third-ranked team Division 2 team in the country. Arika Johnson led the way up front with 14 kills and 5 blocks.
In the second game, Muskegon (10-4) gave the Cobras trouble early, but Parkland settled into the match, winning 25-20, 25-18 and 25-11. Sophie Young had a very impressive 40 assist, 5 ace performance and Kat Blase led the Cobra offense with 16 points.
Up next, Parkland will face #14 Des Moines Area Community College and #8 Kirkwood Community College in the Parkland College Classic on Saturday, September 25th. Those two matches are scheduled for 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM respectively.
