WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 5 ranked Parkland College golf team rallied back from a shaky start to finish in second place at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout on Tuesday, April 18th, as the Cobras combined for a two-round team score of 587 (+11) at the par 72 Ackerman-Allen Golf Course. Parkland trailed only the tournament hosts, Taylor University (576, E), by 11 strokes after the final round, defeating third-place Indiana Wesleyan University (605, +29) by 18. Freshmen Zarak Curley paced the Cobras on Tuesday, leading the way with a two-round score of 143 (-1) and a third-place finish individually.
“I am really proud of the fight the guys showed today,” head coach Corbin Sebens said after his team’s second-place finish. “Early in the morning, the rounds were going the wrong direction, and we turned it around and finished strong. The team carried that momentum into the second round and played solidly.”
“I couldn’t be prouder of (Zarak Curley) for his consistent play today,” Sebens highlighted. “His hard work showed today for a top-five finish.”
Up next, Parkland will compete in the Take Back the Night Challenge this weekend. The two-day event, hosted by Millikin University, will kick off on Friday, April 21st, at Red Tail Run in Decatur.
