TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The No. 6 ranked Parkland College Softball team extended its winning streak to six games with two victories over Central Lakes College-Brainerd and Iowa Central Community College on Tuesday, March 14th. The Cobras (17-6) rolled past the Raiders 19-2 in game one, and freshman Ellie Vetter (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 9 K) shutout the Tritons 6-0 as Parkland improved to 4-0 at Cocoa Beach this week.
Up next, Parkland travels to Fort Meyers, Florida, for a doubleheader at Division I No. 3 Florida Southwestern State on Thursday, March 16th. First pitch against the Buccaneers (23-3) is scheduled for 1:00 PM EST.
Game 1: No. 6 Parkland College 19, Central Lakes College-Brainerd 2
Parkland put the Raiders (0-6) away early, as Ellie Vetter smacked a 3-run home run to make it 11-0, and the Cobras led 14-0 heading to the 2nd inning. Parkland extended its lead in the 3rd when Addie Wallace (3-5, RBI, 2 R) scored Jaden Corley (2-4, RBI, 2 R, 2B), and Tia Probst put down an RBI sac bunt in her first plate appearance of the season to make the score 16-0. Central Lakes got two runs back in the 4th, but Parkland responded with two in the bottom half, and the Cobras comfortably won 19-2.
Freshmen Izzy Sheets (1-0) struck out six batters in three innings, allowing one hit in her second start of the season. Freshmen Katy Hendricks (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER) made her first appearance in the 4th inning.
Game 2: No. 6 Parkland 6, Iowa Central Community College 0
The Cobras and the Tritons (6-10-1) remained scoreless through three innings, but Parkland broke the seal in the top of the 4th when Katy Hendricks (2-3, RBI, BB) drove in Emma Mason (1-4, R, 2B). With two outs in the top of the 5th, Cobra starting pitcher Ellie Vetter (1-3, 2 RBI, R, 2B, BB) drove in Lexie Griffin (1-2, 2 R, 2 BB), and Vetter got out of a jam in the bottom half to preserve Parkland’s 2-0 lead. Freshmen Payton Roberts (1-4, 3 RBI) provided insurance with a 3-RBI double in the top of the 7th, and the Cobras cruised to a 6-0 win. Vetter (4-1) allowed just four hits and one walk in the complete game shutout.
