Parkland College Student Government elections will take place April 10, 2023-April 13, 2023. This year’s candidates include:
Student Trustee: Lauren Mobo
Hello Parkland Cobras!
My name is Lauren Mobo and I am running for Student trustee.
I recently graduated from Centennial High School and began studying Biological Science at
Parkland last fall. I am currently in Parkland Science Scholars and I want to do research to
improve healthcare and medicine.
I believe that I am fit for Trustee because of my ability to think outside the box and be open
minded. A big responsibility of a Trustee is to make sure all students of different backgrounds
are seen and heard at Parkland. Being open minded allows for me to accept all viewpoints to be
able to find a common ground to represent all.
With being raised in a Liberian household my parents always stressed the importance of
education and power it has to improve the world around us today. Many students today are
discouraged from pursuing an education because they believe that there are certain barriers. As a
black woman pursuing STEM there are not a lot of people like me in the field.
At Parkland I will ensure diversity by hearing the concerns of us Parkland students and
encourage engagement to understand the issues. I want to make students feel safe and valued no
matter who they are while trying to change the world.
Student Government President: Jeslie Mounka
Hi everyone, my name is Jeslie Mounka and I’m running for President for student government. As a student just like you, I understand the challenges and opportunities that we face every day.
Throughout my time at this school, I have been involved in a wide range of activities and organizations, from sports teams to service clubs to academic programs. These experiences have taught me the importance of teamwork, communication, and dedication.
If elected, I will work tirelessly to represent the interests of all students and to make sure that our voices are heard. I believe in the power of collaboration, and I am committed to working with students, teachers, and administrators to make our school a better place for everyone.
Thank you for considering me as your candidate for student government. Let’s work together to make a positive impact on our school community!
Senator: Cassidy Peterson
Hi! My name is Cassidy Peterson. I am a first-year sophomore at Parkland after transferring from Lincoln Christian University. I am from Mahomet and have lived there all my life. I had a positive experience with Mahomet schools and was active in music and band. At Parkland I am majoring in Early Childhood Education and plan to graduate in the Spring of 2024. My plans are to transfer to Illinois State and earn a degree in Human Social Services. I hope to have a career in social services and work with underprivileged people or with children with special needs.
I have been fortunate to work in Student Life during my time at Parkland. I enjoy getting to know people all over the college and helping students who come into our office. I am a very social person and love meeting people and representing Parkland to visitors. I have been involved with community service for many years and currently teach Sunday School to second and third-graders at my church.
My time in Parkland’s Student Government Association will be dedicated to making personal contact with fellow students and trying to make them feel like a part of our Parkland community. I think students would be more successful if they felt like they were a part of something bigger than themselves.
My name is Cassidy Peterson, and I will serve Parkland students with dedication and enthusiasm.
