Rafael Salvani is a second-year Business Administration major at Parkland College and has been appointed to be the Treasurer this semester for the Honors Program and Scholars Group. Salvani also serves as the current Vice President and Treasurer for the 2-year college honor society Phi Theta Kappa and is a participative member of Parkland’s Student Leadership Academy and the Cobra Investment Society. “I encourage all of my peers to be engaged on campus and to be involved in several activities in order to help them receive the full experience that Parkland has to offer.” says Salvani. “Alongside other Parkland organizations and programs, I am supported in setting academic goals and am rewarded for my hard work and dedicated thanks to Dr. Jones and what him and Parkland have curated for the Honors Program and Honor students.”
Dr. Marsh Jones has been the Honors Program Director and Faculty Advisor for Parkland Scholarship Student Organization since 2006. Jones is also a History Professor. “I have taught History at the University of Illinois and Parkland College for over thirty years and I loved every minute of it!” Jones exclaims.
Dr. Jones’ passion in recent years has been Race Talks. Since Dr. Jones and Donna Tanner-Harold (Retired Parkland Counselor) brought the movie ‘Racial Taboo’ to Parkland in 2016, the Honors Program and Parkland Scholars have organized and conducted multiple RACE TALKS Discussions each semester with the goal of stopping the spread of racism at Parkland and in our communities. Other student organizations who help sponsor Race Talks include the Black Student Success Project, Club Latino, the Student Education Association, and the Muslim Student Association.
