MARION, Ill. – The Parkland College Baseball team exploded for eight runs in the top of the eighth inning in a 13-5 win over Harper College at the Rent One Invitational on Saturday, March 4th, as the Cobras won their fourth straight game. Sophomore designated hitter Tyler Herron (4-5, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2B) led the team in hits and total bases (5), while freshman Ryan Snell (2-4, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB) scored three times in the win.
Up next, the Cobras remain in Marion, Illinois, to face South Suburban College and rematch Harper College tomorrow, March 5th. First pitch against the Bulldogs (7-3) is scheduled for noon on Sunday, and first pitch against the Hawks (0-2) is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
Game 1: Parkland College 13, Harper College 5
The Cobras took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 4th when Ryan Snell and Charlie Marisca (1-4, 2 RBI) each hit RBI singles, and shortstop Tylor Phommachanhom (2-5, 2 RBI, R) extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the 6th. The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom half to trim the Cobra lead, but Tyler Herron drove in Jackson Blemler (3-4, RBI, R) in the 7th to put Parkland up 5-3. Harper would not go quietly, tying the game 5-5 on back-to-back RBI walks in the bottom of the 7th, but Parkland eliminated all doubt with a seven-hit, eight-run top of the 8th inning, and the Cobras won 13-5.
Sophomore Tresdon Rybarcyk (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 5 K) allowed just one hit in his third start of the season, striking out five batters. Freshman Richie Snider and redshirt sophomore Louis Stallone took the mound in the 6th and 7th innings, and freshman righthander Brenden Katz earned the first win of his career in relief.
