On March 7, Parkland will be holding its special production of “Silent Sky” in the William M. Sterkel Planetarium. This event will be the first full production ever to be held in the William M. Sterkel Planetarium and promises to be a unique experience for all who attend. Directed by Diane Pritchard, “Silent Sky” follows the true story of famous astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. The show will follow her struggles and triumphs as a woman in science in the early 1900s.
When asked about why this event is so unique, Pritchard said,
“In preparation for this play, the student actors needed to learn about Cepheid stars and why Henrietta Leavitts’s study of them came to be of such importance to future discovery about exactly where we are in the universe. With the assistance of Planetarium Producer Wyena McCully, the audience will be able to see projections on the Planetarium dome of star charts and other backgrounds during the performance.”
“Silent Sky” will open on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. and the last showing will be on March 10 at 7:30 p.m. Be sure not to miss this special event!
