Working at the Prospectus
During what feels like a short time at the Prospectus I’ve written many articles and gotten to spend time with many different incredible people.
I worked under two different great Editor-in-Chiefs (EICs) as a reporter and got to know my community more than I did than when I started here at Parkland.
I was lucky enough to start my second year at Parkland, with the recommendation of the former EIC Trent Chassy, leading the fine group of people working at the Prospectus now as the new EIC.
My Decision to Leave
It is with a heavy heart that I inform the readers of the Prospectus of my decision to leave behind the paper. This decision was not made lightly.
For those who know me personally they know that I am a huge advocate for mental health.
As someone who feels so strongly about the subject and encourages others to take care of themselves and advocate for themselves, I was forced to take a step back and do that for myself.
On top of that I have been in the midst of a creative endeavor for the past two years, a book I’ve been writing that I’m hoping to publish sometime in the summer of 2024. More to come on that at the Prospectus soon.
Passing the Torch
Between writing my book and wanting to pour my time and energy into that and needing to focus on myself and my mental health, I knew I needed to make a hard decision about school.
Choosing to take a break from school, even though it meant bettering myself, meant having to leave behind the Prospectus.
I want the readers of the Prospectus to know that making this decision was one that came with lots of tears and heartache and is one that still causes me to cry thinking about it writing this now.
But I’m proud to say that the Prospectus is moving forward with a great new EIC who I’ve recommended much like the EICs before me did. I have great faith in the staff moving forward. I have seen some of their ideas to move the Prospectus into a new age and couldn’t be more proud and excited to see what they do.
Lastly I want to say thank you to Sidney Megeff for helping me lead the Prospectus when neither of us really knew what we were doing. I’d like to think we did an ok job.
And thank you to the readers.
Goodbye Prospectus.
