Spring break starts at 5 p.m. on March 11. If you aren’t travelling, you still have 168 hours, 10,080 minutes, and roughly 7 days to fill (but we aren’t counting or anything). Here are our team’s recommendations for what to stream over break:
1. “Psych.” Snarky, witty, and a tad bit obnoxious. If you love a good bromance with a side of mystery, watch this for free on Amazon.
2. “Community.” If you want a glimpse of community college life, outside of Parkland, we recommend you watch this comedy. It shows a handful of college students from all walks of life, from a disbarred lawyer to a divorced mother, and their adventures (or misadventures) during college.
3. “2 Dope Queens.” This HBO special is a mix between stand-up comedy and more in-depth conversations about hard subjects. The live show is based off of the podcast that features female comedians, comedians of color, and LGBT comedians, in an effort to represent people from different backgrounds. We think it’s a great way to learn, laugh and maybe get some questions answered that you’ve always been afraid to ask.
4. “Disenchantment.” If you’re a fan of Matt Groening’s animated antics, you should check out this Netflix exclusive series. It’s “Futurama” meets Dungeons and Dragons with four seasons of twists, turns, and top-notch storytelling and humor that we’ve come to expect from the creators and cast behind “The Simpsons” and “Futurama.”
5. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Amazon’s hit series has just been renewed for a fourth season and between the music, the comedy, the fashion, and the storyline, it is one that we think should be on your watchlist. Set in the 1950’s and 60’s, you’ll get to experience the empowering Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) navigate her way through the unconventional world of standup comedy. A story that is ultimately about female empowerment is sure to inspire its viewers and offer many laughs along the way.
6. “Ozarks.” With a new season recently released, check out this drug-smuggling, drug-selling, horror show. It’s an entertaining watch.
7. “The Blacklist.” If you like funny, suspenseful crime shows—this one is for you. An FBI Most Wanted criminal turns himself in to be an informant. A highly classified team of agents hunts criminals the informant adds to his “Blacklist” while he continues to build his crime empire.
8. “Click, Click, Boom.” If you’ve still got chills from being validated by Andrew Garfield’s smile in “No Way Home,” just wait until you hear him sing in “Click, Click, Boom.” Watch this musical biopic of the director who inspired Lin-Manuel Miranda.
9. Sarah Z on YouTube. Looking for long-form video essays on pop culture and fandom? Then check out Sarah Z’s channel on YouTube. Her essays cover fandom drama, social media conflict, and everything in between.
Not watching TV or YouTube, here are our recommendations for things to listen to:
10. Sturgill Simpson (musician). Do you hate modern country and its fake twang? Well, so does Simpson. His unique blend of genres and sultry baritone offer a variety of great listens.
11. “Superbowl 2022” playlist. If you enjoyed listening to the hip hop legends at this year’s Superbowl, check out the Superbowl 2022 playlists available on Spotify.
12. “The Majority Report with Sam Seder.” This political video-podcast is not your average talk show. Sam Seder and Emma Vigeland debate callers and take on the issues from unique perspectives. Through the fog of American politics, this crew never misses an opportunity to laugh.
13. “Crime Junkie Podcast.” If you have yet to stream this podcast, we think you are missing out. From thrills to chills and everything in between, this eerie podcast hosted by Ashley and Brit is sure to fill your much-needed true crime fix. These stories from around the world will make you stop and question your every move, and even the mannequin you think lies on the side of the road.
