Taylor Swift just released her 10th studio album, and 12th album she’s ever released, and it’s already smashing records not only on its first day of release but also in its first week.
At exactly midnight EST, the expected 13 songs from the album “Midnights”, were released. But in true Swift fashion, she gave her fans a chaotic surprise by releasing 7 extra tracks.
In her career, Swift has won many awards and broken many records. As recently as last year, when she released Red (Taylor’s Version) and her song “All Too Well (Ten Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” Swift broke the record for the longest song to reach number one on The Billboard Top 100.
With her new album, Swift broke two Spotify records; the most streamed album in a single day and the most streamed artist in a single day.
In a three-day span, Swift literally outdid herself again by not only breaking a record but breaking a record she had already set.
“Midnights” is now the first album in five years to sell over a million units in a week. The last album to do this was her own “Reputation”. Moreover, almost half of the sales were from vinyl records. Plus, the album now has the largest debut week of any album since Adele released “25” in December of 2015.
She’s projected to take at least the top ten spots on Billboard’s Top 100 and is projected to debut as the number one spot for Billboard 200 which is a list of the hottest albums.
On top of that Swift has also secured the top 4 songs with the most streams on Spotify in a single day, those songs being “Anti-Hero”, “Lavender Haze”, “Maroon”, and “Snow On The Beach”.
However, the biggest news for her fans, who are notoriously known as “Swifties”, is her tease on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, of an upcoming tour. It would be her first tour in four years.
As for all of the love and praise the album is receiving, Swift is extremely honored. “I’m feeling very overwhelmed by the fans’ love of this record,” Swift said on The Tonight Show.
Throughout her career, Swift has grown an immense following and is seen as one of the biggest stars in music not only today but ever. Known for writing songs about heartbreak and her own personal life experiences, Swift started as a country singer and slowly worked her way through pop, rock, folk, and alternative.
She is being hailed by many as “the music industry” seeing as she keeps making history in big ways. Those people might just be right.
“Midnights” is available on any streaming platform as well as in stores for purchase. Be on the lookout in the next few days for another article by me where I will not only give my rankings of the songs on the album but also go over the metaphors and possible meanings in the lyrics.
