
Urbana’s primary consolidated election is just a few days away. So, here is some information that can help educate your vote. The spotlight is on the mayor’s position as they hold major responsibilities that influence the city’s decisions and outcomes. The candidates for this very important position are Annie Adams and DeShawn Williams.
Although both candidates are running from the democratic party, their priorities differ. Adams has communicated that some of her priorities would be to modernize our police force, give more options for affordable housing, and put more and update crosswalks around Urbana. Williams has stated that what he wants to get done for Urbana is to create more options for affordable housing as well as promote overall safety and equality.
Two of Urbana’s aldermen are also being voted on in this election. The alderman functions as the representative of the people living in their zone. The two positions up for a vote are Ward 2 and Ward 6. The borders of Ward Two in Urbana are West University, North Lincoln, West California avenues, and Grove Street. The two candidates for Alderman 2 are Larry Lister and Christopher Evans, the current alderman.
The borders of Ward 6 are Philo Road, Hillshire Drive, East Windsor Road, S High Cross Road, Abercorn Street, and a little bit above Florida Avenue. The two candidates for Alderman 6 are William P. Colbrook and Phyllis Grace Wilken, the current alderman.
For this election, voting day is the 25 but there are options for early voting. On the 25, various polling locations in the CU area will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
