The Parkland Foundation at Parkland College is an organization that was established in 1969. The foundations motive is to seek out support to ensure Parkland College is able to provide educational opportunities and community enhancement.
According to parkland.edu,
“To meet the demands of the constantly changing educational climate, the foundation provides scholarships to deserving students; state-of-the-art technical equipment and program enhancements to the academic departments; capital for additional college buildings; and funds to broaden educational and cultural opportunities and services to citizens of Parkland College District 505. By administering these resources to the college, the foundation works to improve the economic development of communities within Parkland College’s district as well as the quality of life to the residents.”
Here are a couple ways you can contribute to making a difference:
Establishing a Fund or Scholarship
Establishing a fund allows you to name the fund/scholarship of your choosing. This allows individuals to add a more personal meaning to their donation. It also allows you to donate your funds to a specific academic area. The foundation works closely with donors in order to respect the wishes of the donor as well as align with Parklands priorities.
Annual Giving Programs
There are currently two giving programs that donors can donate to annually. The programs include “The Presidents Circle” and “Creating Impact Fund.” These are groups that alumni, family, friends, members of the community, and anyone who would like to join can make an impact on Parkland College. These programs support the foundations mission and help provide scholarships, resources, and enhanced technology to Parklands students.
Planned Giving Opportunities
The Parkland Foundation’s “planned giving opportunities” allows for students to think about the future.
Gifts of this nature leave a legacy and include things like bequests, life insurance, and retirement plan assets.
Naming Opportunities
As mentioned before, those who donate may have the option to name a scholarship fund. Members of Parklands Board of Trustees have the opportunity to name specific parts of campus as well.
Memorial Gifts
Continuing, Parkland also offers the option to to plant a tree in memory of someone or something. These trees are planted in Memorial Grove on Parklands Campus.
Tracy Wahlfeldt, executive director of the Foundation states, “I think people often think you have to have a lot of money to set up a scholarship fund. You really don’t. Every amount counts and helps a student achieve their goals. It is also a pretty simple process. They usually struggle most on what to name the scholarship.”
